The Proceedings of the Study Conference Nino Barbantini (1884-1952)

On May 29 at 11 a.m., in the Businaro Hall of Monselice Castle, the Proceedings of the Study Conference Nino Barbantini (1884-1952) will be presented. Tra museografia e critica d’arte published in the journal “Saggi e Memorie,” a valuable scholarly publication published by the Foundation’s Institute for Art History.
The volume documents the topics covered in the two days of studies dedicated to Barbantini (Castello di Monselice, October 18 and 19, 2022), a leading figure of museography in Italy in the early decades of the 20th century and an undisputed protagonist of Venetian cultural life. In particular, the relationship between Barbantini, Vittorio Cini and the Monselice Castle is treated: in the mid-1930s, Barbantini was in fact chosen by Cini as the person in charge of the project of restoring and setting up the Monselice residence, which with its art collections constitutes a mirror of the taste choices made by Barbantini for the entrepreneur-collector from Ferrara, with whom he shared a long and fraternal cultural association. The texts published in the volume also investigate Barbantini’s multifaceted personality by reconstructing the intertwining of museography, exhibitions and art criticism, presenting the displays he promoted in the light of contemporary museography, and finally delving into his relationships with scholars, colleagues and artists in the varied and fertile cultural and intellectual climate of Venice in the first half of the twentieth century.
