This volume, published by Marsilio, brings together the proceedings of the Study Day (Giorgio Cini Foundation, 2018) organised by the Institute of Art History in collaboration with Fratelli Alinari, which has now become the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia.
The publication includes the texts of the papers presented at the symposium, focusing on the relationship between the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Fratelli Alinari in Florence, which made it possible to significantly enrich the heritage of the Photography Archive in the Institute of Art History. This relationship is given ample space by virtue of its centrality: a relationship that goes back to 1957, when Cini became the owner of Alinari, which was developed in the 1960s with the passage of the company to the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, and which over the following decade would steer the orientation of new photographic campaigns. By shedding light on these dynamics, this volume offers a new and significant step into the field of studies devoted to the relationship between art and photography, in the hope that it will constitute a valid point of reference both for specialist audiences and for the broader world of art history.
