International Conference: Vittore Carpaccio
Venice, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, 11-12 November 2020
Next year (10 October 2020 – 24 January 2021) a major international loan exhibition on the great Venetian Renaissance painter Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1465-1525) will be held at Palazzo Ducale, Venice. The exhibition, which is organised by the Musei Civici and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, will provide the most comprehensive display of the artist’s paintings and drawings since the famous monographic exhibition of 1963. To celebrate this event, a two-day conference will be held in November at the Fondazione Cini, Island of San Giorgio Maggiore. It is expected that the conference will consist of about twenty papers, which will cover the full range of issues that have concerned Carpaccio scholars during the course of the past half century: documentation; connoisseurship and chronology; iconography; patronage and social context; conservation and technical investigation.
Scientific committee: Luca Massimo Barbero, Patricia Fortini Brown, Giorgio Fossaluzza, Augusto Gentili, Deborah Howard, Peter Humfrey, Giulio Manieri Elia, Stefania Mason.
Proposals for papers should include a title and an abstract (max 300 words), together with the applicant’s contact details and a brief CV (100 words).
The proposals should be sent to the secretariat of the conference carpaccio@cini.it by Friday 13 March 2020.
