“Vittore Branca” International Center for the Study of Italian Culture
Dedicated to the renowned Italianist, who served for many years as the Secretary General of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the Centre is a residential hub for humanities studies that hosts research projects on Italian civilisation, spanning art, history, literature, music, theatre, and rare books.
Since 2010, Italian and international scholars have been able to plan research residencies on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, working in the Foundation’s libraries and those of the city, contributing to the promotion of humanities studies.

The Centre is intended for university students, doctoral candidates, post-doctoral researchers, professors, writers, and artists of all ages who are interested in spending a period of study in Venice.
Research Residencies
The Foundation offers residential scholarships aimed at PhD candidates, PhDs, and postdoctoral researchers under 40, to attend the “Vittore Branca” International Center for the Study of Italian Culture.
The scholarships cover the cost of accommodation and are intended for both Italian and foreign scholars interested in topics related to Italian civilisation, with a particular focus on Venetian civilisation.
Candidates also have the opportunity to propose independent research projects, provided they focus on the materials held in the libraries and archives of the Giorgio Cini Foundation.

The Foundation's Libraries and Digital Heritage
THE RESIDENCE
Located within the woods of the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Residence of the Vittore Branca Center accommodates up to 90 scholars, providing an ideal environment for reflection and dialogue. The former buildings of the Center for Arts and Crafts, designed by the architect Vietti in the 1950s, have been renovated to house the facility, which ensures long-term study stays for researchers from around the world, in an economically sustainable context.
