Eyes on Music is an initiative organised by the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies (IISMC) at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice with the aim of promoting training and production support activities in the field of audiovisual and multimedia ethnomusicology.

This year the project includes a new series of online workshops.
Each event will focus on a topic of technical, theoretical, and methodological interest within the field of audiovisual media for ethnomusicological research.

These online gatherings aim at offering an opportunity for individual growth within a community of researchers with a shared interest in the field of audiovisual ethnomusicology.

Participatory ethnographic methodologies applied to music

Guest speaker: Dario Ranocchiari, Professor at Universidad de Granada (Spain)
Introduction and moderation by Marco Lutzu and Simone Tarsitani
This workshop offers an exploration of key aspects of participatory ethnographic research in the field of music. The first part provides a theoretical overview of fundamental participatory methodologies, primarily developed within sociocultural anthropology and participatory action research, with a focus on how these approaches can be effectively applied in musical contexts. We will examine the principles of co-creation, co-utility and reflexivity, emphasizing the role of researchers as facilitators working alongside the participant communities. Links to audiovisual materials will be shared with registered participants before the seminar begins and will then be discussed online.

Registrations are open for the third event on Friday 13 September 2024.

Send an email to [email protected] to confirm by 11th September your participation and to receive the Zoom link to join the event.
