International Conference. The Glass Ark. Animals in the Pierre Rosenberg Collection

In close thematic correlation with the exhibition The Glass Ark. Animals in the Pierre Rosenberg Collection, the Glass Study Centre is coordinating this international conference to explore and analyse the significance of Murano glass production featuring the animal world.

The excellent pieces currently on show will be highlighted and described along with different, equally representative works from disciplines akin to the art of glassmaking. They have all been gradually brought together over the years, resulting in the creation of a full-blown “zoomorphic anthology”.
The over twenty speakers at the conference will include art historians, curators, artists, glass designers and master glassmakers.

They will bring their own perspectives to bear on the theme of the art of the glass animalier in various ways: from a critical-historical point of view; by describing specific design and creative experiences in the context of the glass furnaces; and by considering productions in fields such as comics, scenography and archives.
At the online event on Monday 28 June from 2.30pm to 6.30pm, the individual speakers will discuss not only the amazing pieces on display in the Stanze del Vetro exhibition but also important archive material, such as the period photographs, drawings and designs in the General Glass Archive at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini Institute of Art History. The opening remarks will be made by Pierre Rosenberg himself, who will describe the beginnings and development of his stunning collection of glass animals from the 1930s to the present day.
