A fascinating itinerary, a walk through Renaissance courtyards and past Baroque monuments to explore a great centre of knowledge situated on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore: an islet set in the heart of the Bacino di San Marco.
This is the way to find out all about the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, a prestigious cultural institution created by Vittorio Cini in 1951 to commemorate his son Giorgio, who died in tragic circumstances. The initial aim of the Foundation was to restore the monumental heritage on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, in a state of grave disrepair after almost 150 years of military use, and reintegrate it into Venice city life as an international centre for cultural activities.
In this captivating place you can stroll through Renaissance courtyards designed by Buora and Palladio and admire the monumental Baroque architecture conceived by Longhena, or delve into the enormous libraries guarding over knowledge.
From 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday 3 May, digital invaders will be able to visit the monumental complex of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in the company of a guide. Tours will last an hour but numbers are limited. Contact and book the time for your tour by calling 041 2201215 or by sending an email to segreteria@civitatrevenezie.it.
Admission and the guided tours are free of charge.
